Preserved historic engines on the Ahrtalbahn Ever since the opening of the Ahrtalbahn special trains were run for tourists enjoying the scenery and the (red-) wine. Especially after the end of regular steam trains enthusiast specials were run as early as 1969. Since 1996 the DB runs a regular steam service every September and October weekend from Cologne. A short list of steam engines seen in the Ahr valley the last years consists of the classes: 01, 03, 24, 41, 62 and 65. Coaches run from open platform types up to the historic Rheingold. |
